Situated on the banks of the Saigon River and still commonly referred to as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s largest metropolis and undisputed commercial capital. A seemingly chaotic whirl of motorbikes flows through the busy city streets, above which soar glistening skyscrapers and lavish hotels, while style-conscious locals flock to the city’s newest restaurants, designer malls and chic nightspots. Yet the spirit of the old city lives on in its colonial architecture, ancient pagodas, bustling markets and ubiquitous street food stalls. This is modern Vietnam at its most vibrant.
