Gorgeous Croatia boasts a rich cultural history and offers visitors UNESCO heritage-listed historical sites, glittering seaside villages and myriad fortresses, castles, city walls and narrow cobbled alleyways to explore.
We suggest starting in iconic Dubrovnik, spending a few days exploring the old town on foot, and doing some day trips further afield. Croatia is all about the islands so island-hopping by local ferry is a must! Spend your days on boat trips to remote beaches, exploring ancient sites and walking the cobbled streets of the old cities.
Visit Plitvice National Park to walk around the spectacular lakes and waterfalls – we recommend an overnight stay here to beat the day tripper crowds.
Finally, head off the beaten track to Rovinj, in Northern Croatia. This region has a strong Italian influence and is known for its fine cured meats and truffles. Spend a few days before travelling to Venice. Arrival to Venice by private speedboat anyone?
Hotels we recommend include a swanky beach resort, an historic B&B and a chalet in a National Park. We recommend travelling with a mixture of public ferries, and private drivers, although it is easy to self-drive if preferred. We recommend around 2 weeks for a leisurely Croatian itinerary.
