From the bustling metropolis of Colombo, to beautiful beaches, to the green hill country and a safari, Sri Lanka has something for everyone. Flights arrive into Colombo very late at night from Australia, so we recommend staying one night near the airport, before hitting the road with a private driver to first head to Sigiriya, in the cultural triangle. It’s great to spend a few nights here, to climb the famous rock fortress and visit cultural sites Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura.
Next you’ll venture into the hill country, visiting Kandy and experiencing the train journey of a lifetime, through the lush, green tea plantations with the locals. A hike to Little Adam’s Peak provides fabulous views to waterfalls and endless valleys.
Yala National Park is the place to go for a safari, to try to spot the elusive leopard in the wild! Finally, no trip to Sri Lanka is complete without a visit to colonial Galle, and a stay in a nearby beach resort for a few days of R&R. From here you can either travel straight to the airport to head home, or spend a night in Colombo at the famous Galle Face Hotel.
Hotels we recommend include a restored tea factory, a boutique B&B and upmarket beach resorts. Travelling with a private driver/guide is recommended. We recommend around 2 weeks for your Sri Lankan adventure.
