There is so much to see in the NT! Start in Darwin, a true melting pot of cultures and cuisines. Spend a few days here discovering the famous Mindil markets, learning about Darwin’s fascinating war history, and perhaps even doing a day trip out to the remote Tiwi Islands.
From Darwin, we recommend hiring a car and driving to Kakadu National Park for a few days of 4WDing and exploring local sites (we can arrange small group day tours from Kakadu so you benefit from expert local guides). From here, continue your drive to Katherine Gorge where two nights is the perfect amount of time for a relaxing cruise through the gorges, and perhaps a hike.
A stay near Litchfield National Park for waterfalls, walking trails and swims in remote watering holes, rounds out your NT adventure, before returning to Darwin. If you have more time, fly to Alice Springs and experience Aboriginal culture with its abundance of indigenous art galleries and museums, then drive (or better still, do a tour) to Uluru, stopping for a night at Kings Canyon on the way. A few days can easily be spent in Uluru, experiencing the magical ‘Field of Light’ exhibition, Kata Tjuta National Park and of course, experiencing Uluru itself, either on foot, by bike or from one of the many viewpoints.
A 3 night / 4 day Ghan expedition makes for a luxurious and truly memorable journey through South Australia and Northern Territory, taking you all the way from Darwin to Adelaide.
We recommend 3 & 4 star hotels, or luxury lodges in NT. Get around either with a hire car or on an organised group tour, or a mix of both. For a full NT experience, spend around 2.5 weeks here.
